Welder - Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger

About the role

NMDC Dredging and Marine is looking for a welder to work on board a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD). The welder carries out welding, cutting, grinding and fabrication work, and repairs and maintains dredging equipment, pipelines, hopper structures, steel plates and supporting machinery.

Key responsibilities

• Perform welding, cutting, grinding and fabrication works on board the TSHD, including repairs to suction pipes, discharge lines, brackets, frames and other steel components.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, welding symbols and repair instructions.
• Assist the engineering team during planned maintenance, breakdown repairs and dry-docking.
• Inspect welded joints for defects and ensure work meets quality and safety standards.
• Maintain welding equipment, tools and consumables, and keep the work area clean and safe, including proper storage of gas cylinders.
• Follow onboard permit-to-work procedures, hot-work permits and confined-space entry requirements, and comply with HSE procedures such as fire prevention and PPE use.
• Coordinate with the Chief Engineer, engine-room personnel and other departments, report defects and material needs to the supervisor, and carry out other welding, fabrication and maintenance duties assigned.

Required profile

• Industrial and Vocational Training in the Welding trade.
• STCW certification.
• Medical certificate as per ILO/MLC requirements.
