Chief Engineer – Vessel Operations

About the role

We are seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the Vessel Operations department for an oil and gas operating company in the UAE. The role involves overseeing the safe and efficient operation of all engine‑room machinery, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, and supporting the vessel’s overall performance.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure safe, efficient operation and maintenance of all engine‑room machinery and equipment.
• Manage planned maintenance systems and unscheduled repairs for vessel plant and machinery.
• Identify critical equipment, maintain operational status, and keep spare‑parts stock up to date.
• Comply with Class, International Maritime, and Flag State rules and regulations.
• Maintain accurate records such as engine room logs, Planned Maintenance Systems, Oil Record Books, Ballast Water Management Records, and Cargo Log Books.
• Supervise and appraise engine‑room staff.
• Assist in planning dry‑dockings, major repairs, modifications, and surveys, keeping the Vessel Operations Department informed of vessel status.
• Operate the vessel in an accident‑free environment by fully implementing the Safety Management System and ISM Code.
• Report all defects to the office promptly.
• Communicate and cooperate with other onboard departments.

Required profile

• Chief Engineer License STCW III/2.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as Chief Engineer on offshore vessels.
• Thorough knowledge of vessel propulsion, diesel engines, diesel gensets, HVAC, electrical/electronic systems, Dynamic Positioning (DP) system, shipboard control and automation, high‑pressure and hydraulic systems.
• High level of computer literacy, proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Oracle.
• Excellent verbal and written command of English.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Highly organized with high attention to detail.
