Clinical Nurse Coordinator - Inpatient Hematology Oncology

About the role

The Inpatient Clinical Nurse Coordinator supports safe, coordinated cancer care for high‑complexity hematology‑oncology patients. Working within a flagship Cancer Center, the role bridges inpatient and outpatient teams to ensure seamless diagnostics, treatment planning, and discharge follow‑up.

Key responsibilities

• Screen and track high‑complexity oncology inpatients using the EMR and maintain up‑to‑date patient lists.
• Coordinate care for newly diagnosed inpatient cancer cases, including scheduled chemotherapy admissions.
• Facilitate complex oncology diagnostics such as molecular and genomic testing (NGS, FISH, cytogenetics, MRD/ctDNA).
• Manage pathology and tissue procurement, including specimen retrieval from external institutions.
• Support transitions of care by arranging timely oncology follow‑up appointments after discharge.
• Act as the liaison between inpatient oncology teams, outpatient clinics, pathology, molecular diagnostics, pharmacy, and related services.
• Identify and escalate system‑level barriers that affect oncology care coordination.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with oncology experience, comfortable managing complex inpatient cases.
• Strong organizational and communication skills to coordinate across multiple specialties.
• Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, and ancillary services.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
• Knowledge of molecular and genomic testing techniques: NGS, FISH, cytogenetics, MRD/ctDNA.
• Experience coordinating pathology and tissue procurement processes.
