Customs Specialist – Operations

About the role

The Customs Specialist – Operations will manage daily import and export activities for the region, ensuring smooth movement of goods across international borders while complying with all relevant laws and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the global product classification team to obtain and verify Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Schedule B, ECCN, and other classification codes.
• Partner with manufacturing and service sites to develop, train, and implement origin logistics models, documenting export and import requirements.
• Establish and maintain standard shipment documentation for both inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring data accuracy with customs brokers.
• Resolve clearance issues by working daily with brokers and logistics providers.
• Handle daily inquiries on export shipments and inbound import approvals, preparing documentation as needed.
• Maintain document retention to support compliance with government agencies and international trade regulations.
• Monitor critical shipments, track performance metrics, and address problems promptly.
• Serve as the primary contact for internal stakeholders, customers, and vendors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in international trade, logistics, or related fields.
• Minimum 5 years of logistics and trade‑compliance experience, preferably in the oil & gas industry.
• Membership in professional trade or compliance organizations is a plus.

Required skills

• Customs brokerage operational experience.
• Strong data analysis skills, including IT metrics and KPI tracking.
• Invoicing and documentation management.
