Economist – Price Control (Energy Sector)

About the role

The Department of Energy Abu Dhabi is seeking an Economist to support the Price Control Section. You will help design, implement and continuously improve a modern price control framework for electricity, water, recycled water and wastewater services.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the price control team in developing a robust price control model covering operating expenses, capital expenditures and the weighted average cost of capital.
• Review Price Control Returns, issue guidance packages, calculate annual bonuses/penalties and support the incentive framework for distribution, transmission and energy licences.
• Provide analytical support to OPEX, CAPEX, incentives and financial modelling groups.
• Collaborate with senior staff to evaluate financial performance of sector companies against price control targets.
• Maintain and update professional databases, financial price and consumption models, and ensure transparency of calculations.
• Draft consultation papers and regulatory documents, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
• Undertake any additional duties assigned by the Senior Economist.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience in economic analysis, financial modelling and price regulation within the energy sector.
• Strong understanding of cost structures, capital budgeting and incentive design.
• Excellent analytical, quantitative and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with senior economists and regulatory officials.
