HSE Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced HSE Design Engineer to join a leading engineering and project execution environment in the oil & gas sector. The role focuses on embedding health, safety and environment (HSE) and process safety requirements into EPC design activities from concept through detailed design.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate HSE and Process Safety requirements across Concept, FEED and Detailed Design stages.
• Ensure compliance with the HSE Management System, design safety requirements and international safety standards.
• Coordinate and facilitate third‑party safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, ENVID, SIMOPS and SIL reviews.
• Apply ALARP principles and risk ranking methodologies during engineering design reviews.
• Review and validate engineering deliverables (PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, layouts, equipment arrangements, 3D models) from an HSE perspective.
• Verify fire protection, fire‑gas detection, hazardous area classification, emergency escape routes and safe access provisions.
• Participate in design, constructability and model review meetings and technical risk assessments.
• Support multidisciplinary teams to embed safety considerations and ensure regulatory and client compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Process, Safety or related engineering discipline.
• 8–12 years of HSE / Process Safety engineering experience on EPC oil & gas projects, preferably with Middle East operators.
• Hands‑on experience conducting HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, SIMOPS and SIL studies.
• Strong knowledge of Process Safety, ALARP methodology, fire & gas systems and hazardous area classification.
• Proven ability to review engineering documents and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
