Information Technology Librarian

About the role

The Department of Library & Learning Commons at Zayed University is seeking an Information Technology Librarian to manage and enhance the Integrated Library System and related applications. The role supports library operations, introduces new technologies, and ensures seamless access to resources for students, faculty, staff, and community users.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing short‑ and long‑term technical projects and innovative initiatives for library services.
• Collaborate with the Technical Services Team, IT Department, and vendors to deliver system projects on time and within budget.
• Perform routine system and database maintenance, test upgrades, and manage configuration changes.
• Load bibliographic data, maintain system logs, and ensure database integrity.
• Develop and maintain the library’s web presence and discovery tools for effective resource search.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues within the library.
• Analyze and recommend functional changes to improve workflows and services.
• Work with the IT Department and business partners to uphold information security and system integrity.
• Provide functional support and training to library faculty and staff on system use.
• Participate in user groups and professional forums to contribute to system development.
• Engage in ongoing professional research and development.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent).
• Demonstrated knowledge of professional IT applied in library and research environments.
• Familiarity with current cataloging and metadata standards.
• Ability to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively across departments.
• Adaptability to a rapidly changing technological environment.

Required skills

• Integrated Library System (ILS) administration (e.g., Alma, Koha).
• Database management and maintenance.
• Web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for library portals.
• Discovery tool configuration and optimization.
• Hardware, software, and network troubleshooting.
• Information security best practices.
• Metadata standards such as MARC, Dublin Core.
