Instrumentation & Automation Engineer

About the role

An experienced Instrumentation & Automation Engineer is sought to support engineering, project execution and control system upgrade activities in Oil & Gas facilities in Abu Dhabi. The role covers detailed engineering reviews, automation system implementation, vendor coordination, construction supervision, testing and commissioning, and compliance with project specifications and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support detailed engineering, site project engineering and I&C construction, modification and upgrade projects.
• Review and validate vendor engineering documents such as FDS, control narratives, logic diagrams, I/O lists and system architecture drawings.
• Manage and supervise engineering deliverables for DCS, PLC, SCADA and ICSS systems, Modbus and OPC networks, I/O mapping, cause-and-effect charts, functional block diagrams, wiring and general arrangement drawings, datasheets and technical bid evaluations.
• Coordinate with control system vendors and interface automation systems with electrical systems such as ECMS, PMS and LMS.
• Monitor and optimise vendor activities during control system modifications, upgrades and site implementation, and ensure compliance with project specs, company standards and HSE requirements.
• Coordinate with Operations, Construction, Electrical, Instrumentation and Vendor teams.
• Supervise FAT, IFAT, SAT, ISAT, loop checking, pre-commissioning, commissioning and startup, and review vendor documentation, inspection reports, test certificates and as-built records before client submission.
• Provide technical support during troubleshooting, commissioning and handover.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical or Automation Engineering, or equivalent.
• 6-8 years of experience in instrumentation and automation engineering in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refinery or Energy projects.
• Proven experience in detailed engineering, site execution and commissioning of automation and control systems.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA, ICSS and industrial communication protocols.
• Experience reviewing control system documentation and engineering deliverables.
• Familiarity with FAT, SAT, commissioning and startup activities.
