Quality Technician - Switchgear Testing

About the role

The Quality Technician tests electrical products according to Quality Control Instructions (QCI) and stage-inspects the assembly process. The role covers hands-on testing of switchgear and protection systems, keeping logs of tested and inspected products, reporting abnormalities and contributing to continuous improvement while following the LIMS health and safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform primary and secondary injection testing of protection systems and verify circuit breakers, contactors, CTs, VTs, busbars and protection devices.
• Carry out insulation resistance, continuity, contact resistance and functional testing, and troubleshoot faults during testing and commissioning.
• Check wiring against schematics, validate breaker operation and interlocks, and configure, parameterize and test numerical protection relays.
• Verify control circuits, protection schemes, interlocks, annunciation and metering systems; check communication interfaces and network integration where applicable.
• Work with relays from ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric, GE, SEL and similar manufacturers.
• Ensure test equipment is identified, calibrated and handled properly, and that the testing area is kept clean.
• Ensure products meet production targets, are released without delay, and that BOM discrepancies are reported to the team leader.
• Take part in continuous improvement initiatives and suggest improvements.

Required profile

• Diploma or ITI in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in switchgear testing and troubleshooting.
• Experience in FAT activities and customer inspections.
• Ability to read and interpret SLDs, schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Team player with good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
