Junior Research Scientist – AI & Blockchain (CTED)

About the role

The Center for Technology, Economics, and Development (CTED) at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks a Junior Research Scientist to work on AI‑Blockchain projects for one year, with possible renewal based on performance. The role supports quantitative research on commodities markets and economic development, reporting to Dr. Yaw Nyarko and Dr. Raša Karapandža.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement algorithms, machine‑learning models, and mathematical simulations.
• Conduct data cleaning, analysis, and coding tasks using Python, MATLAB, and related libraries.
• Review and proofread formal mathematical proofs and optimization methods.
• Prepare literature reviews, research reports, concept notes, and academic publications.
• Support experimental and field‑based research, including randomized controlled trials in emerging economies.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or related field (or Bachelor’s with research experience).
• Less than five years of relevant research experience.
• Strong foundation in mathematics, statistical learning, and algorithmic reasoning.
• Extensive coding experience and willingness to learn blockchain technologies.
