Lead Fuel Handling Technician

About the role

The Lead Fuel Handling Technician is responsible for directing and executing critical outage activities at the Barakah nuclear facility. This includes managing reactor vessel disassembly and reassembly, core fuel removal and reload, neutron source movement, and spent fuel pool operations while ensuring strict adherence to Nawah safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate outage tasks such as reactor vessel disassembly, core fuel handling, and spent fuel pool movements.
• Serve as the stand‑in supervisor during absences, providing field leadership and oversight for maintenance teams.
• Develop and implement plans and schedules to optimise refuelling activities and maintain operational readiness.
• Oversee fuel receipt, unloading, inspection, storage, and handling of fuel assemblies.
• Manage Integrated Head Assembly (IHA) disassembly/re‑assembly, component removal and re‑installation, and core loading/unloading.
• Inspect, test and maintain lifting and rigging equipment used in fuel handling.
• Verify that all work meets quality‑assurance standards and nuclear safety requirements.

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in a nuclear or high‑hazard environment.
• Strong knowledge of Nawah standards, nuclear safety and industrial safety procedures.
• Ability to coordinate with OCC, operations, maintenance, contractors, radiation protection and safety teams.
• Maintains a high level of technical competence through ongoing training and qualification.
