Learning Support Assistant (School)

About the role

The Learning Support Assistant works closely with teachers to help pupils achieve maximum progress across the curriculum. The role involves supporting individual and group learning, encouraging independence, and ensuring a safe, supervised environment for all children.

Key responsibilities

• Assist teachers with delivering intervention programmes and preparing learning resources.
• Support pupils individually or in small groups to develop independence through questioning, modelling and dialogue.
• Supervise children during breaks, trips, swimming and PE lessons, and act as a backup for bus supervision.
• Manage pupil behaviour positively, using the school’s reward system and role‑modeling expected conduct.
• Maintain confidentiality, attend weekly meetings with the teaching team, and communicate pupil progress effectively.
