Mechanical Design Engineer – Industrial Refrigeration

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in industrial refrigeration to join a forward‑thinking engineering team. You will own the full design lifecycle, from concept through to Issued for Construction (IFC), delivering high‑performance cooling solutions for critical industries.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical and refrigeration design for industrial, commercial, and recreational projects.
• Produce system specifications, block flow diagrams, layouts, P&IDs and comprehensive design review packages.
• Perform detailed calculations including heat load, HVAC, thermal, pipe stress, vibration and seismic analyses.
• Manage BIM workflows in line with ISO 19650, BS 1192 and PAS 1192‑5, coordinating LOD requirements.
• Conduct clash detection, develop BOQ/BOM, and execute value engineering for IFC submissions.
• Select and approve equipment, incorporate design review comments, and prepare O&M manuals.
• Provide guidance, review work of other designers and support the development of design standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical or refrigeration design.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Commitment to safety, integrity and high‑quality engineering delivery.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Revit MEP, Navisworks, AutoCAD and BIM 360.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office for engineering documentation.
• Deep understanding of refrigeration design, heat transfer and equipment function.
• Ability to perform heat‑load calculations, thermal analysis, pipe‑stress, vibration and seismic assessments.
