Practical Nurse – Tower D8 Burns Intensive Care Unit (BICU)

About the role

The Practical Nurse works in the Tower D8 Burns Intensive Care Unit (BICU) at SSMC, delivering patient‑centered care under the supervision of Registered Nurses. The role supports the unit’s mission to provide high‑quality burn care while adhering to Abu Dhabi’s Nursing Code of Conduct.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and implement nursing care plans for burn patients under RN supervision.
• Assist with activities of daily living, including meal distribution and hygiene support.
• Report any significant changes in patient condition to the RN immediately.
• Respond to emergencies following hospital policies.
• Maintain accurate verbal and written communication with patients and their representatives.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure efficient, patient‑centered care.
• Document care and use electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
• Support RNs and clerical staff with administrative duties as needed.
• Provide patients and families with comprehensive information and resources.
• Manage inventory of examination room supplies and ensure rooms are prepared for each patient.

Required profile

• Practical Nurse qualification; not licensed for independent practice.
• Ability to work under RN supervision and follow established care plans.
• Commitment to confidentiality and professional interdisciplinary communication.
• Willingness to contribute to cost‑saving strategies and resource utilization.
