Principal Engineer - Embedded Software

About the role

EDGE’s Advanced Concepts division is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design and development of high‑technology autonomous systems. You will own the architecture of complex embedded solutions, drive firmware development for microcontrollers and Linux‑based platforms, and mentor a growing engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and design embedded systems with real‑time, power and resource constraints.
• Develop and maintain bare‑metal firmware for Cortex‑M microcontrollers (STM32, NXP LPC, Microchip PIC).
• Implement and support RTOS‑based firmware using FreeRTOS, mbed or ThreadX.
• Write Linux device drivers and kernel modules for custom hardware.
• Create user‑space multimedia applications with V4L2, GStreamer and FFmpeg.
• Optimize software on NVIDIA Jetson platforms using JetPack SDK (CUDA, cuDNN, TensorRT).
• Integrate communication protocols (I2C, UART, SPI, CAN) in both Linux and microcontroller environments.
• Lead code reviews, enforce coding standards and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics or Software Engineering.
• 15+ years of professional experience in embedded software development.
• Deep knowledge of ARM64 and Cortex‑M architectures and Linux kernel development.
• Proven experience with bare‑metal firmware, RTOS, and high‑performance Jetson platforms.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical and debugging abilities.
