Principal Engineer – Propulsion (Solid Rocket CFD)

About the role

EDGE is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead CFD analysis of solid‑propellant rocket motors, nozzles, blastpipes and thrust‑vector control systems. The role combines advanced numerical simulation, code development and validation against test data to drive high‑performance propulsion designs for autonomous aerospace systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform CFD simulations of solid‑propellant rocket motors, grains, blastpipes, nozzles and thrust‑vector control systems.
• Predict flow distribution, combustion efficiency, heat transfer, ballistic forces and overall performance.
• Develop and maintain post‑test analysis codes for thrust‑vector and nozzle designs.
• Provide design‑optimization recommendations based on CFD results.
• Validate numerical predictions against experimental test data and produce technical reports.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 years of experience in solid‑rocket propulsion engineering with a focus on CFD analysis.
• Master’s or PhD in Propulsion, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, emphasizing fluid dynamics.
• Proven expertise with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS CFX or OpenFOAM.

Required skills

• Advanced CFD simulation of solid‑propellant rocket components.
• Development of post‑test analysis and thrust‑vector control codes.
• Data analysis using Python or MATLAB.
• Strong knowledge of turbulence, combustion and multiphase‑flow modeling.
