Principal Medical Specialist

About the role

The Principal Medical Specialist provides expert medical guidance across the organization, interpreting complex health‑related issues and recommending best practices. Working independently with minimal supervision, the role leads functional teams, ensures compliance with health, safety, environment and security (HSES) standards, and serves as the primary medical subject‑matter expert.

Key responsibilities

• Discuss injuries and incidents with key personnel and follow up on medivac and medical referral cases.
• Coordinate with the Director of Health and Industrial Medicine on case disposition, fitness‑to‑work decisions, and further treatment.
• Review medical reports from officers, pre‑employment examinations, and advise relevant departments.
• Ensure availability of medical equipment, supplies, and staffing according to the plan.
• Oversee water‑analysis sampling, hygiene inspections, and sanitation compliance.
• Collaborate with HR on mobilization of medical officers and maintain up‑to‑date training requirements.
• Provide medical guidance to employees, supervise medical officers, ambulance drivers, and administrators.
• Maintain confidentiality and integrity of medical records and support case management.

Required profile

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent medical degree.
• Valid medical practitioner certification.
• At least 6 years of experience as a medical practitioner, preferably in industrial or occupational health.
• Strong managerial and supervisory experience in healthcare settings.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Occupational health certification.
• Competence in medical emergency response, resuscitation, and trauma patient stabilization.
• Medical case management and policy implementation.
