Research Computing Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Research Computing Manager to lead and continuously improve the specialized computing facilities that support the Institute’s research programmes in Abu Dhabi. The role combines strategic planning, budget management and technical oversight to ensure a world‑class research computing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee development, implementation and review of policies and procedures for research computing, including user access, system security, license management and charge‑back accounting.
• Supervise and evaluate technical support staff to ensure effective support for faculty and researchers.
• Prepare annual budget requests and monitor expenditures for research computing.
• Collaborate with researchers at all levels to understand computational requirements and provide consultancy.
• Develop awareness and training programs on research computing techniques and facilities.
• Advise on the effective use of research computing facilities and applications.
• Liaise with senior research team members to discuss issues and implement service improvements.
• Work closely with ICT teams on design, development, maintenance and support of back‑end research computing systems.
• Explore collaborations with external research computing facilities.
• Formulate and implement short‑ and long‑term goals, set priorities, assign responsibilities and establish timetables; project future needs and devise strategies.
• Meet with subordinates to ensure compliance with established practices, implement new policies and keep staff updated on changes and standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising technical support staff.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage budgets for research computing.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with researchers, ICT teams and senior management.
• Experience developing training and awareness programs.
• Ability to formulate strategic plans and set priorities for research computing services.
