Senior Hardware Engineer – Advanced Concepts

About the role

Senior Engineer – Hardware within EDGE’s Advanced Concepts unit, focusing on the design and deployment of high‑technology autonomous systems for defence applications.

Key responsibilities

• Use Altium (or similar) for schematic capture, component library management, SPICE analysis, and PCB layout.
• Design electronic safety and arming devices adhering to MIL‑STD‑1316 and other military standards.
• Develop multilayer PCB layouts employing blind‑buried vias, via‑in‑pad, BGA, and both SMT and PTH components.
• Create PCB designs for harsh military environments, selecting appropriate materials and techniques.
• Integrate analog and digital domains, ensuring signal integrity and low EMI through proper grounding, shielding, and filtering.
• Generate complete data packages (BOMs, Gerbers, assembly drawings) and maintain documentation per IPC and military standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide training on hardware debugging tools and best practices.
• Conduct hardware testing and troubleshooting using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in PCB design for defence applications.
• Proven expertise in VHDL coding and FPGA/MCU integration.
• Demonstrated ability to design power supplies (buck, boost, fly‑back, inverters, DC/DC) for high‑performance systems.
• Experience with military‑grade standards (MIL‑STD‑1316, IPC) and related documentation.
