Specialist Physician – Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

About the role

The Specialist Physician in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry shares responsibility with the Consultant Physician to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care. The role models clinical excellence within the division and contributes to the supervision and training of junior medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat children and adolescents according to best‑practice standards under the supervision of the Consultant Physician.
• Supervise junior medical staff and jointly assume responsibility for the care they provide.
• Lead ward rounds, reassessing in‑patients and out‑patients regularly.
• Document all clinical information accurately and timely.
• Review investigation results and adjust treatment plans as required.
• Liaise with other specialties and support services for multidisciplinary input.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to plan safe, holistic patient care.
• Obtain informed consent and prepare patients for procedures.
• Accept referrals from emergency, primary care, other departments, walk‑ins, and external hospitals.
• Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
• Communicate clinical information to patients and families with consent.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with staff and promote a team‑based approach.
• Support administrative duties, incident reporting, and departmental initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified physician with a specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry.
• Ability to work under the supervision of a Consultant Physician.
• Experience supervising junior medical staff.
• Familiarity with hospital admission, discharge, outpatient, and follow‑up processes.
• Commitment to appropriate resource utilization and performance management.
• Willingness to attend divisional meetings and support incident investigation.
