Specialist Physician – Orthopedics

About the role

The Specialist Physician – Orthopedics provides high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care within the Orthopedics Division. Reporting to the Consultant Physician, the role combines direct clinical responsibilities with supervision and training of junior medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive orthopedic diagnosis and treatment in line with best-practice standards.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in-patients and out-patients, and ensure accurate, timely clinical documentation.
• Supervise and mentor junior doctors, sharing responsibility for the care they provide.
• Support departmental initiatives, performance-management processes, and quality-improvement projects.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and liaise with other specialties to coordinate holistic patient care.
• Prepare patients for procedures, obtain informed consent, and manage referrals from emergency, primary care and other services.
• Provide out-of-hours on-call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Report, investigate and respond to untoward incidents and contribute to audit activities.

Required profile

• Qualified Specialist Physician in Orthopedics with a proven record of clinical excellence.
• Experience supervising junior medical staff and working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to adhering to hospital policies, patient safety standards and continuous quality improvement.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, families and healthcare professionals.
