Ubuntu Security Engineer

About the role

Join a globally distributed security engineering team focused on protecting users and strengthening the security of open‑source software. Based in the United Arab Emirates, you will investigate emerging vulnerabilities across the Ubuntu ecosystem, helping to identify, assess, remediate, and document security issues.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse, investigate, fix, and test vulnerabilities affecting open‑source packages within Ubuntu.
• Monitor and track vulnerabilities from discovery through patch release using internal security tools.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams, upstream developers, and the open‑source community to develop and validate security patches.
• Audit source code and software components to uncover security weaknesses.
• Design and develop automation, features, and internal tools that improve product security.
• Document findings, remediation actions, and technical details clearly.
• Contribute to broader open‑source security initiatives and engage with industry communities.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of common software security vulnerabilities, attack techniques, and remediation approaches.
• Familiarity with coordinated vulnerability disclosure and responsible security communication.
• Experience with open‑source development tools, workflows, and methodologies.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Hands‑on experience with Linux environments, preferably Ubuntu or Debian‑based systems.
• Analytical mindset, logical reasoning, and strong troubleshooting skills.
