Welding Engineer – Pipeline Projects

About the role

The Welding Engineer will lead and coordinate all pipeline welding activities on site, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements. This role reports to the project management team and works closely with NDT, inspection, and client QC groups.

Key responsibilities

• Select and assign welders based on material requirements and monitor their performance.
• Supervise daily welding operations, including foremen, welders, and helpers, to achieve productivity, safety, and quality targets.
• Ensure availability of welding resources such as machines, consumables, and protective equipment.
• Coordinate with NDT and inspection teams to schedule and review testing activities.
• Assess the welding environment and provide necessary equipment, PPE, and HSE measures.
• Validate welder qualifications and welding procedures according to pipeline construction codes.
• Interpret construction drawings, WPS, PQR, WQT, and ITP documents for pipeline projects.
• Identify risks to schedule, cost, or deliverables and propose mitigation plans.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical or Mechanical Engineering, preferably with a master’s in Welding or an International Welding Engineer diploma (IWE, CWE, etc.).
• Minimum 12 years of experience as a welding engineer in oil & gas, piping, or pipeline projects.
• Strong communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
• Level II NDT certification in RT, UT, MT, and PT.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GTAW and SMAW welding processes for carbon steel, CRA, and Inconel 625.
• Working knowledge of pipeline welding codes: API 1104, DNV‑OS‑F101, ISO 13623.
• Familiarity with welding standards: ASME Section IX, ISO 9606, ISO 15614‑1.
• Ability to read and implement construction drawings, WPS, PQR, WQT, and ITP.
• Problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities in a project environment.
