About the role
The 2nd W/K Electrical Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of all electrical, electronic, automation and instrumentation systems on board a Cutter Suction Dredger. The role ensures safe, reliable power generation, distribution and dredging systems to support continuous dredging operations.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical, automation and instrumentation equipment including PLCs, VFDs, MCCs, switchboards, generators, motors and sensors.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance and corrective repairs in line with the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
- Monitor electrical load distribution, insulation integrity, protection systems and overall equipment health.
- Maintain emergency power systems, UPS units, batteries, navigation lights, communication equipment and safety alarms.
- Ensure compliance with ISM Code, class, flag state requirements and electrical safety regulations.
- Apply Permit‑to‑Work, Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out and other isolation procedures before maintenance.
- Coordinate with the Chief Engineer, Dredge Master and deck/engine departments to support efficient operations.
- Supervise and guide Electrical Ratings, trainees and contractors during maintenance activities.
- Participate in emergency drills and provide technical support during breakdowns.
- Identify recurring issues, recommend improvements and contribute to vessel reliability.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics & Automation Engineering.
- 5‑10 years of experience on a dredger or in heavy industry with automation.
- Basic STCW training and a valid medical fitness certificate.

- Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) operation.

- Navigation lighting and communication equipment upkeep.
- Safety alarm system handling.

- Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out (LOTO) safety practices.
