Accountant – Contracting (Finance Operations)

About the role

The Accountant – Contracting supports day‑to‑day finance and accounting operations for the contracting business. The role focuses on accurate transaction recording, project cost tracking, and preparation of financial documentation required for audits and client approvals.

Key responsibilities

• Record daily financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, receipts, payments, journal entries and reconciliations.
• Maintain organised accounting records such as invoices, LPOs, delivery notes, payment certificates and project approval evidence.
• Prepare petty cash reports, expense claims and supporting schedules in line with company policies.
• Code transactions to the correct project, supplier, subcontractor, cost category and general ledger account.
• Maintain finance records for construction contracts, variations, claims and interim payment applications.
• Assist in reconciling project‑related receivables, payables, advances, retentions and progress billings.
• Process supplier and subcontractor invoices, payment certificates, advances and expense reports, ensuring proper matching to contracts and approvals.
• Maintain vendor and subcontractor records, reconcile statements and follow up on discrepancies.
• Prepare weekly, monthly and ad‑hoc payment schedules for review by senior finance leaders.
• Support preparation of client invoices, interim billing and collections activities.

Required profile

• Hands‑on finance professional able to manage routine accounting tasks independently.
• Strong coordination skills with procurement, project and commercial teams.
• Ability to escalate complex commercial, contractual or technical accounting matters to senior finance leadership.
• Attention to detail and thorough documentation practices.
