Assembly Tool Design Engineer

About the role

EDGE, an advanced technology group headquartered in the UAE focused on defence and emerging technologies, is hiring an Assembly Tool Design Engineer in Abu Dhabi. The engineer designs, develops and supports assembly tooling, jigs, fixtures, gauges and production aids used in manufacturing and assembly, ensuring they meet quality, safety, cost and productivity requirements while supporting new product introduction and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop assembly tools, jigs, fixtures, templates and gauges for manufacturing operations.
• Create 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using CAD software such as CATIA, SolidWorks, NX or Creo.
• Perform tolerance analysis and ensure designs meet dimensional and functional requirements.
• Work with manufacturing, production, quality and engineering teams on assembly requirements.
• Support new product introduction and industrialization, and prepare engineering documentation, BOMs and technical specifications.
• Coordinate with tool manufacturers and suppliers during fabrication and qualification, and run tooling trials, validation and acceptance tests.
• Investigate production issues, support root cause analysis and corrective actions, and take part in lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Provide technical support and training to production personnel and ensure compliance with standards, customer requirements and safety regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in tooling design, fixture design or manufacturing engineering.
• Preferred: aerospace industry experience (Airbus, Boeing, aircraft structures, composites, aerostructures) and knowledge of tool qualification, validation and First Article Inspection (FAI).
• Preferred: familiarity with AS9100, tolerance stack-up analysis, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, PLM systems (3DEXPERIENCE, Teamcenter, Windchill) and CNC machining.
• English proficiency required.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as CATIA V5/V6, Siemens NX, SolidWorks or Creo.
• Ability to create and interpret 2D engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• Understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes and of tooling, jigs, fixtures, templates and gauges.
