Assistant Chief Engineer

About the role

The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the engineering department of a luxury hotel, ensuring all mechanical, electrical and safety systems operate reliably. You will work on preventative maintenance, safety testing and guest‑related repair requests in a fast‑paced hospitality environment.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and perform preventative maintenance on tools, appliances and equipment.
• Calibrate controls, gauges and meters; locate and operate shut‑off valves.
• Order, label, stock parts and manage inventory and purchase‑order logs.
• Conduct life‑safety checks, including fire‑pump, generator and fire‑sprinkler valve tests.
• Inspect alarm systems and respond to guest repair requests.
• Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling and performance coaching of engineering staff.
• Follow all safety, security and company policies; report hazards and complete required certifications.

Required profile

• Technical, trade or vocational school degree.
• Minimum 2 years of related engineering or facilities maintenance experience.
• At least 2 years of supervisory or team‑lead experience.

• Preventative maintenance techniques.
• Equipment calibration (controls, gauges, meters).
• Power lift operation.
• Fire‑pump and generator testing.
• Fire‑sprinkler valve and alarm system inspection.
• Inventory management and parts ordering.
