Assistant Manager - Distribution Center

About the role

The Assistant Manager will lead automation operations within a busy distribution centre, ensuring that all automated equipment runs efficiently and safely. This position combines hands‑on technical oversight with team leadership to meet key performance indicators such as uptime, throughput and cycle time.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily operation of conveyors, sorters, AS/RS, robotics and other automated systems, monitoring KPIs and coordinating with operations and maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Implement and supervise preventive maintenance schedules, resolve technical issues promptly, and drive corrective actions for recurring faults.
• Lead, mentor and allocate tasks to automation engineers, supervisors and technicians, supporting their training on new systems and safety practices.
• Assist in planning and executing automation projects, including testing, commissioning and integration with IT and engineering teams.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, conduct root‑cause analyses and maintain SOPs and risk assessments.
• Prepare regular performance reports, maintain equipment documentation and provide recommendations for system enhancements and cost optimisation.

Required profile

• 5–7 years of experience in warehouse automation or engineering, with 2–3 years in a supervisory or assistant‑managerial role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering; automation or lean certifications are a plus.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams, manage projects and communicate effectively with cross‑functional stakeholders.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with PLCs, HMI and SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of industrial control systems and robotics.
• Familiarity with AS/RS, conveyor and sorter equipment.
• Understanding of material‑handling equipment, warehouse layouts and automation performance metrics.
