Assistant Manager - Production (Steel Manufacturing)

About the role

Decision Management Consultants is hiring an Assistant Manager - Production for a client, a leading metal and steel manufacturing company based in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The plant covers the Re-heat Furnace, Mill Rolling Processes and Finishing End and runs on a 24-hour, 7-day, 3-shift basis. The role supports the Manager in production, maintenance, budgeting, asset management and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate safe processes and work practices, and solve critical technical, operational, scheduling and resource issues to maximise plant utilisation.
• Advise on Rolling and Finishing End process issues and support the HSM Business Development and Strategic Planning processes.
• Plan plant, departmental and individual objectives and lead production, maintenance and associated functions, managing performance and giving feedback and appraisals.
• Support the Manager with annual budgets, OPEX and CAPEX budgets, and with customer expectations, supplier coordination and shutdown strategies.
• Ensure safety across all processes, develop a strong safety culture, update work instructions, ensure personnel and equipment safety, and carry out risk assessments where needed.
• Manage areas in line with QA procedures and ensure adherence to a quality management system.
• Resolve critical technical and production issues personally to minimise downtime, and lead technical development of equipment and processes.
• Support the Manager in maintaining a maintenance system with predictive and preventive activities, and in recommending a capital plan and reviewing asset conditions.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 to 15 years of experience, preferably in the steel industry or a Section Mill Steel Plant.
• Strong experience in steel manufacturing operations.
• Strong leadership and planning skills, and ability to manage production processes efficiently.
• Understanding of quality, safety and operational compliance.
