Assistant Manager - Roll Shop

About the role

A leading metal and steel manufacturing company in Abu Dhabi, UAE, is hiring an Assistant Manager for its Roll Shop through a recruitment consultant. The role supports the Roll Shop Manager in running daily operations and maintenance of rolling mill rolls and equipment, and involves coordination with production, mechanical, quality control and planning departments.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and supervise roll grinding, assembly, disassembly and changing; ensure rolls and tooling are available according to production schedules
• Monitor roll performance, wear and consumption, and coordinate with Production, Mechanical, QC and PPC departments
• Inspect rolls dimensionally before installation and after dismantling, and maintain roll history cards, grinding records, maintenance logs and inventory records
• Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance of machinery, grinding machines, material handling equipment and tools, and support shutdown planning
• Control consumables, spare parts and tooling inventory, and enforce safe material handling, housekeeping and storage
• Identify roll defects and quality issues, and initiate corrective actions
• Conduct toolbox talks, on-the-job training and skill development, and enforce PTW, LOTO and safety procedures
• Maintain IMS procedures under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, take part in risk assessments, audits and continuous improvement, and promote quality, environmental and safety awareness

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
• 8-12 years of experience in rolling mill operations, Roll Shop maintenance or a similar manufacturing environment
• Experience supervising maintenance teams and coordinating with cross-functional departments
• Strong leadership, problem-solving and organisational skills, good communication skills and a strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
