Assistant Nurse - OPD (Sharjah)

About the role

Royal Hospital Sharjah is hiring an Assistant Nurse for its Outpatient Department (OPD). The post holder works within their scope of practice, putting the health, wellbeing and safety of patients first, and acts under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the planning and delivery of nursing care for outpatient patients, following evidence-based guidelines and unit competencies.
• Assist with activities of daily living such as meal distribution and hygiene, and provide direct patient care according to the patient care plan.
• Monitor and record vital signs and patient condition, report changes and abnormalities immediately, and document care accurately in the patient record.
• Respond to emergencies according to policy, initiate emergency assistance and perform Basic Life Support.
• Prepare patients for emergency surgery and assist physicians with procedures requiring technical and manual skills.
• Perform routine nursing procedures and skills for the assigned clinic, including ECG, and maintain equipment in good working order.
• Facilitate post-discharge clinic visits and tests, schedule follow-ups and referrals, and help arrange patient transport.
• Relieve other nursing units in the hospital when necessary and work across departments; be willing to work on call when required.

Required profile

• A valid license to work as an assistant nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority, with the qualifications and experience mandated by it.
• Proficiency in emergency procedures, equipment and protocols, and competence in all mandatory and unit-specific competencies.
• Excellent observation skills, critical thinking and the ability to make quick, effective decisions.
• Ability to function efficiently in the assigned clinic and to adapt care to the needs of patients of different ages.

Required skills

• Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
• Ability to manage own professional re-licensure.
• Understanding and use of evidence-based healthcare.
