Assistant Resident Engineer - Overground Metro Stations

About the role

The Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) supports the Resident Engineer in overseeing the construction, testing, commissioning and handover of elevated and at-grade metro station structures, together with their architectural, civil, structural, MEP and rail interface works. All works must follow project specifications, approved drawings, contract requirements, quality standards, safety regulations and client expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Construction supervision: monitor contractors against approved drawings, specifications, method statements and schedules; supervise civil, structural, architectural and MEP works; coordinate site inspections
• Quality assurance: implement quality management systems, witness inspections and testing, monitor non-conformance reports and close-outs, and verify compliance with international standards and local regulations
• HSE: promote a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with HSE plans and permit-to-work systems, and take part in safety inspections, audits and incident investigations
• Interface coordination: liaise with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, utility authorities and client representatives, and support interface management between station works and adjacent infrastructure
• Contract administration: review shop drawings, method statements, RFIs and material submittals, support progress measurements and payment applications, and monitor variations and claims
• Testing and commissioning: support testing of station systems and building services, verify asset readiness for handover, and take part in snagging and final acceptance inspections
• Reporting: prepare and review daily, weekly and monthly progress reports, maintain inspection records and highlight risks and delays

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Construction Engineering or a related discipline; professional engineering certification preferred
• Minimum 10-15 years of overall construction supervision and project delivery experience
• At least 5 years on metro, rail, transit or major transportation infrastructure projects
• Proven experience supervising elevated or overground station construction
• GCC/UAE experience highly preferred; PMC/Engineer/Consultant experience desirable

Required skills

• Knowledge of station structures, architectural finishes and MEP integration
• Understanding of rail project interfaces and operational requirements
• Knowledge of FIDIC contract conditions
• Familiarity with testing, commissioning and handover processes
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software
