Assistant to Associate Professor of African Music

About the role

The Africa Institute at Global Studies University in Sharjah, UAE, is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor in African and African Diaspora music, musicology or ethnomusicology within the Department of Humanities. The successful candidate must be specialised in research on one or more regions of the African continent and is encouraged to have expertise in African and African diaspora music. The position is full-time, nine months long, starting in the Fall semester.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two courses per semester in musicology and ethnomusicology (four courses per academic year).
• Provide guidance and supervision to graduate students.
• Supervise student research, master's theses and doctoral dissertations.
• Contribute to the interdisciplinary community of the Department and the Institute.
• Carry out an active programme of scholarly research and publication.
• Participate in committees and contribute to curriculum development.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in African music, musicology or ethnomusicology at the time of appointment.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to an innovative, interdisciplinary curriculum.
• Commitment to providing students with diverse learning experiences through teaching, research and service.
