Associate Director – Vertical Transportation

About the role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking an accomplished professional to join its Dubai team as an Associate Director – Vertical Transportation. The ideal candidate is a qualified elevator and escalator engineer with at least 15 years of experience designing vertical transportation systems for major buildings, preferably with consultancy background.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist vertical transportation (VT) design and supervision services across a wide range of built‑environment projects, ensuring code‑compliant and efficient solutions.
• Conduct detailed traffic analysis using industry‑standard VT simulation and performance‑analysis software to optimise system efficiency.
• Prepare technical design proposals, reports, and client‑facing recommendations, including calculations and system selection.
• Provide comprehensive site supervision, inspection, and acceptance testing of complex VT installations.
• Coordinate with local authorities, third‑party inspectors, and client representatives to secure statutory approvals.
• Review and approve contractor submissions such as shop drawings, as‑built documents, method statements, O&M manuals, and warranty documents.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in VT design consultancy, with extensive Middle East project delivery.
• Proven leadership managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex projects.
• Strong client‑facing and stakeholder‑management capabilities within a consulting environment.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of EN81 suite of codes and ASME A17.1 standards.
• Proficiency with VT traffic analysis and simulation software.
• Advanced skills in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM workflows.
• Experience using VT design software and performing performance‑analysis calculations.
