Automation System Engineer – ABB 800xA & SCADA Projects

About the role

Actemium Sharjah is seeking an experienced Automation System Engineer to lead ABB System 800xA, AC800M, SCADA/DCS, and Substation Automation projects from design through commissioning and support. The role involves working on IEC 61850, industrial networking, cybersecurity, virtualization, and brownfield migrations across the UAE, GCC, and international sites.

Key responsibilities

• Design, configure, test, and commission ABB 800xA, AC800M, S800 I/O, controllers, servers, networks and redundant architectures.
• Develop control logic, interlocks, reusable libraries, I/O databases, operator displays, alarms, trends, historian interfaces and high‑performance HMI functions.
• Engineer SAS, electrical SCADA and PMS; integrate IEDs, relays, meters, switchgear, generators, transformers, PLCs, RTUs, drives and third‑party systems.
• Perform IEC 61850 engineering (ICD/CID/SCD files, MMS, GOOSE, datasets, SOE, time synchronization) and configure IEC 101/104, DNP3, Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, OPC, VLANs, PRP, HSR, VPNs, etc.
• Lead FAT, SAT, loop checks, commissioning, migrations, cut‑overs, troubleshooting and customer acceptance.
• Apply IEC 62443‑aligned cybersecurity, support VMware/Hyper‑V, backup, disaster recovery and lifecycle management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation or Electronics Engineering.
• 5–8 years of industrial automation experience, including at least 3 years with ABB 800xA/AC800M.
• Proven end‑to‑end delivery of two ABB 800xA projects (engineering, FAT, SAT, commissioning, handover).
• Hands‑on integration of IEDs, relays, PLCs, RTUs and gateways using IEC 61850 and industrial protocols.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and customer‑facing skills; ability to work independently and travel across UAE, GCC and abroad.
