Big Data Engineer II

About the role

Careem is looking for a Big Data Engineer II to join its Big Data Platform team in Dubai. You will help design, build, and operate a scalable data platform that powers real‑time analytics for the region, working with cutting‑edge big data technologies and a talented engineering group.

Key responsibilities

• Define architecture and deliver end‑to‑end big data solutions.
• Deploy, scale, and maintain large Cassandra clusters.
• Guide internal teams on data modeling, usage, and platform best practices.
• Build robust data pipelines to ingest, clean, and validate data from diverse sources.
• Design and implement Spark/Hadoop based processing jobs.
• Identify and recommend improvements in data governance and large‑scale processing.
• Troubleshoot pipeline bugs and conduct performance analysis.
• Mentor and collaborate with colleagues in a fast‑growing environment.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience with Scala, Java or Python.
• 2+ years managing Cassandra deployments and data modeling.
• 3+ years as a Big Data Engineer or similar role.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS services such as S3, EMR and CloudFormation.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, reliability and scalability.
