BMS Engineer - Data Centre Design

About the role

Syska Hennessy Group is looking for an experienced BMS Engineer to join its data centre design team in the UAE. The specialist turns complex engineering requirements into intelligent, reliable and resilient building management solutions for mission-critical data centres, working on design, development and coordination of BMS solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review BMS architecture, control schematics, points lists, I/O schedules, sequences of operation and technical specifications.
• Design and coordinate BMS controls for chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, fan wall units, chilled water systems, pumps, cooling towers and other critical HVAC equipment.
• Coordinate BMS interfaces with EPMS, DCIM, UPS, generators, electrical infrastructure and third-party systems.
• Contribute to all design stages, from concept and schematic design through detailed design, tender documentation and IFC packages.
• Work with mechanical, electrical, ICT, ELV and other engineering disciplines to deliver coordinated solutions.
• Review contractor submissions, shop drawings, control strategies, equipment schedules and technical documentation.
• Develop and review control sequences supporting redundancy, energy efficiency, resilience and fail-safe operation.
• Take part in technical meetings, design reviews, commissioning, functional testing and integrated systems testing.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls or Automation Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in BMS design and engineering.
• Proven involvement in data centre projects, preferably hyperscale, Tier III or Tier IV facilities.
• Previous experience in an engineering design consultancy is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of BMS architecture, control strategies and building automation systems.
• Experience designing controls for mission-critical cooling and HVAC infrastructure.
• Proficiency in sequences of operation, control diagrams, points lists and BMS technical specifications.
• Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP and other communication protocols.
• Familiarity with BMS platforms such as Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell or Johnson Controls.
• Understanding of ASHRAE guidelines, industry standards and data centre redundancy requirements.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and relevant engineering design tools.
