Caregiver – Patient Support

About the role

The Caregiver works under the direct supervision of registered nursing staff to provide safe, timely patient care in a clinical setting. The role supports patients with daily activities, assists during therapy sessions, and helps maintain a clean and comfortable environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, toileting, and feeding under licensed nursing supervision.
• Perform manual handling tasks, including patient transfers and mobility, based on competency.
• Provide assistive care to tracheostomized patients as directed by a registered nurse.
• Engage in play activities with pediatric patients under guidance of nurses and therapists.
• Monitor and promptly report any changes in patients’ conditions to licensed nursing staff.
• Support patients during physical, occupational, or speech therapy sessions.
• Maintain cleanliness of patient rooms, stock supplies, and ensure medical equipment is cleaned and maintained.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families, offering emotional support and relaying information to nursing staff.
• Assist with housekeeping, laundry, food preparation, and errands as needed.
• Respond promptly to emergencies following established policies and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
