Category Manager – Sports

About the role

The Category Manager will own the strategy for the Sports category, shaping vision, positioning and commercial priorities to support overall business goals. This role combines market analysis, assortment planning and cross‑functional collaboration to drive sales, margin and inventory health across all channels.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute category strategy, vision and commercial priorities for the Sports category.
• Lead assortment planning, product selection, pricing, life‑cycle management and inventory optimisation across store clusters and channels.
• Conduct market, competitor and consumer analysis to inform short‑ and long‑term category plans.
• Develop and manage promotional and campaign plans to maximise sales, margin and stock health.
• Guide Buying and Merchandising teams to ensure assortments meet brand positioning and customer expectations.
• Negotiate with suppliers, secure competitive pricing and monitor supplier performance.
• Collaborate with Logistics and Supply Chain to ensure smooth product flow and mitigate supply risks.
• Prepare and present category performance reviews and business cases to senior leadership.
• Work with Marketing, Retail Operations, Finance and other functions to align on pricing, promotions, space and investment decisions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in category management, assortment planning and pricing.
• Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret market trends and consumer insights.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with Buying, Merchandising, Logistics, Marketing and Finance teams.
