Charge Nurse – Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

About the role

The Charge Nurse in the Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) oversees daily operations, ensuring smooth patient flow and high‑quality care. Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the role combines clinical expertise with administrative leadership in a fast‑paced hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate schedules, assignments and patient care to maintain efficient unit operations.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs, adhering to ethical standards.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient- and family-centered care.
• Monitor staffing levels, skill mix and resource utilization to ensure a safe environment.
• Provide supervision, coaching and constructive feedback to nursing and support staff.
• Administer medications and work with pharmacy services to meet unit medication needs.
• Respond to emergencies according to organizational policies.
• Facilitate communication between patients, families and the healthcare team.
• Coordinate referrals and discharge planning to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competence in patient assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse multidisciplinary workforce.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage unit resources.
