Chief Cleaning Steward

About the role

The Chief Cleaning Steward leads the stewarding team to ensure all kitchen, back‑of‑house and service areas are kept clean, organized and sanitary. This role is responsible for overseeing dishwashing operations, cleaning schedules, waste management and the overall efficiency of the stewarding department.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and lead the stewarding team on a daily basis.
• Plan and assign daily cleaning duties and stewarding schedules.
• Ensure all kitchen utensils, cookware, crockery, cutlery, glassware and equipment are cleaned and stored properly.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchens, dishwashing areas, storage rooms, service stations and back‑of‑house facilities.
• Oversee the operation and efficiency of dishwashing machines.
• Monitor the proper use, storage and maintenance of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
• Manage waste collection, separation and timely disposal.
• Conduct routine inspections to verify cleaning standards.
• Report damaged equipment or maintenance issues to the relevant department.
• Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and request replenishment as needed.
• Train, coach and evaluate stewarding staff on cleaning procedures and safety.
