Civil Inspector

About the role

AECOM is looking for a Civil Inspector to join its team in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The role plays a critical part in ensuring the quality, safety and compliance of civil construction works, working closely with engineers, contractors and other stakeholders to monitor construction activities, verify adherence to specifications and maintain high standards of project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and monitor civil and infrastructure works such as roads, earthworks, pavements, kerbs, footpaths and associated structures against approved drawings and specifications.
• Inspect excavation, backfilling, compaction, subgrade, subbase, road base and asphalt works, and record findings in detail.
• Monitor concrete works including reinforcement, formwork, placement, curing and finishing.
• Inspect drainage structures, manholes, catch basins, chambers and culverts for proper construction and functionality.
• Check line, level, alignment, dimensions and elevations against approved drawings and project specifications.
• Review and verify Inspection Requests (IRs), shop drawings, method statements and material approvals.
• Coordinate with surveyors to verify setting-out, levels and as-built information.
• Witness and monitor field and laboratory testing (compaction, concrete, asphalt) and keep testing records.
• Identify defective or non-conforming works and follow up on corrective actions with contractors.
• Coordinate with the Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, Contractor and other discipline inspectors, and monitor interfaces between civil works, roads, drainage, wet and dry utilities.
• Maintain inspection records, daily reports, testing records and quality documentation, and support final inspections, completion of outstanding works and project handover.
• Report findings and recommendations clearly through written reports and verbal updates to stakeholders.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of proven experience in civil inspection for infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of roads, earthworks, pavements, concrete works, drainage structures and associated civil works.
• Solid understanding of inspection procedures, field testing methodologies and quality documentation practices.

Required skills

• Reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications and method statements.
• Proficiency in inspection procedures and field testing methods.
