Coating, Painting & Insulation Inspector – Piping & Pipeline

About the role

The Coating, Painting & Insulation Inspector will ensure that all coating, painting and insulation activities on piping and pipeline projects meet the required technical standards and client specifications. Reporting to the Team Leader, the role involves close interaction with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders to guarantee quality and safety throughout the execution phase.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve contractor painting, coating and wrapping procedures.
• Inspect surface profile, chloride contamination and monitor weather conditions during coating operations.
• Verify use of approved paint materials and ensure correct pot life and coat intervals.
• Witness and record dry‑film thickness, holiday and pin‑hole detection using calibrated equipment.
• Monitor surface preparation, application of bonding agents, elastomers, CTE coating, heat‑shrink sleeves and wrapping on riser pipes and clamps.
• Supervise post‑curing tests such as hardness, spark, sound, adhesion, visual and dimensional checks.
• Report daily inspection findings, non‑conformities and corrective actions to the Team Leader.

Required profile

• 3‑year Diploma or 4‑year Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• BGAS 2 or NACE 2 certification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in coating, painting and insulation inspection (8 years for Diploma holders, 6 years for Bachelor holders).
• Familiarity with 3 LPE coating systems and strong knowledge of ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM and BS standards.

Required skills

• NACE 2 certification (or BGAS 2).
• Site Safety Induction, H2S Training and HSE Induction for Specific Projects.
• Painting/Coating Inspection techniques, including dry‑film thickness and holiday detection.
• Knowledge of international codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM, BS).
