Commercial Manager – Africa

About the role

Miclyn Express Offshore is seeking a Commercial Manager to lead its chartering and business development activities across the African market. Based in Dubai, the role focuses on expanding the company’s presence in Africa’s offshore shipping sector.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute chartering strategies aligned with financial and business objectives for Africa.
• Identify market opportunities, evaluate cargo requirements and vessel positions, and negotiate voyage, time‑charter and other contracts.
• Maximise vessel utilisation, freight earnings and overall commercial returns.
• Monitor fixture performance, freight rates, market trends and competitor activity.
• Provide market intelligence and recommendations to senior management.
• Develop new customer relationships, maintain existing key accounts and support new trade routes.
• Prepare commercial proposals, tenders and business cases.
• Analyse voyage economics, freight profitability and associated commercial costs.
• Identify and mitigate contractual, credit and market risks in collaboration with Finance, Operations, Legal and Technical teams.
• Lead, coach and develop the commercial chartering team, setting KPIs and performance expectations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in the marine/offshore shipping industry with hands‑on commercial and chartering exposure in Africa.
• Track record of developing and expanding the African market, including customer acquisition and business development.
• Established network of charterers, shipowners, brokers and offshore operators.
• Strong commercial negotiation skills and ability to manage complex chartering contracts.
• Excellent analytical abilities to assess market trends and financial performance.
