Commercial Project Accountant

About the role

The Project Accountant plays a pivotal role in driving strategic financial decisions and managing project lifecycles. This position is responsible for building, maintaining, and analyzing financial information to produce a pricing budget. Additionally, the role ensures strict project financial controls, tracking milestones, managing project cash flows, and delivering variance analysis to senior leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain strict pricing version control protocols and change logs.
• Implement automated audit checks and error‑trapping cells to ensure data integrity.
• Translate operational datasets into clear financial budgets for bid pricing.
• Monitor end‑to‑end project financial performance against budgets and contracts.
• Oversee revenue recognition in line with IFRS 15 or relevant standards.
• Conduct monthly variance analysis to identify risks and cost overruns.
• Forecast project cash flows, track progress billings and manage working capital.
• Prepare monthly financial report packs and dashboards for project managers and leadership.
• Partner with project managers and finance teams to validate assumptions and align financial plans.
• Support internal and external audits with documentation, model assumptions and reconciliations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
• Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, CMA, CFA or a Financial Modelling certification (preferred).
• 3‑5 years of progressive experience in modelling, pricing and project finance.
• Hands‑on experience with project management financial tools.
• Strong understanding of corporate finance theories and accounting frameworks (IFRS/GAAP).

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (including VBA/macros, dynamic arrays, advanced financial functions and data visual tools).
• Financial modelling expertise.
• IFRS 15 revenue‑recognition knowledge.
• Proficiency with project management financial software.
