Job description
About the role
Johnson Controls seeks a hands‑on Connected Chiller Lead Technician to turn remote insights into field actions across its connected chiller portfolio. You will work closely with service, remote operations, and sales teams to improve equipment reliability and respond quickly to emerging issues.
Key responsibilities
- Review and prioritize open alarms, focusing on critical, repeated, and high‑risk conditions.
- Use alarm data, trends, operating parameters, service history, and remote diagnostics to differentiate real equipment issues from nuisance alarms.
- Run regular review sessions with HVAC field line managers to agree actions, ownership, and closure dates.
- Escalate critical or safety‑related conditions quickly and support troubleshooting with clear technical information.
- Maintain accurate trackers for alarms, Virtual Inspection Reports, site visits, opportunities, quotations, and outcomes.
- Visit sites when needed to verify findings, diagnose chiller condition, identify root cause, and define rectification scope.
- Prepare technical recommendations including corrective actions, required parts, estimated labor, urgency, and supporting evidence.
- Support the commercial cycle by clarifying scope, joining customer discussions, and handing work over to operations.
- Onboard newly connected chillers, ensuring asset data, alarm setup, communication status, and monitoring readiness.
- Identify offline or poorly communicating chillers, coordinate remote troubleshooting, and arrange field interventions.
- Share weekly and monthly updates on critical alarms, aging actions, site visits, opportunities, offline assets, and recurring issues.
Required profile
- Diploma, associate degree, or technical certification in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration & Air‑Conditioning, HVAC, or related field.
- Typically 5+ years of hands‑on HVAC service experience with air‑cooled and/or water‑cooled chillers.
- Strong practical knowledge of chiller refrigeration cycles, compressors, evaporators, condensers, cooling‑water systems, pumps, valves, sensors, safeties, controls, and common failure modes.
- Ability to interpret chiller alarms, operating data, trends, controller information, service reports, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Experience diagnosing site issues, defining corrective scopes, identifying required parts, and supporting repair quotations.
- Good written and spoken English.
Required skills
- Chiller alarm interpretation and remote diagnostics.
- Knowledge of BMS integration, gateways, modems, IP connectivity, and basic network troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with digital service platforms, dashboards, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and CRM/opportunity‑tracking systems.
- Strong coordination, communication, and multi‑stakeholder follow‑up abilities.
