Consultant Emergency Medicine

About the role

The Consultant Emergency Medicine will lead the delivery of comprehensive emergency care to patients with acute medical, surgical, traumatic, pediatric and critical care needs. Working within a busy Emergency Department, the consultant will assess, stabilise and coordinate treatment while driving quality, safety and education initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose and manage a wide spectrum of emergency presentations, including trauma and pediatric cases.
• Perform emergency procedures such as airway management, intubation, central venous access, chest tube insertion, procedural sedation, cardioversion and advanced life support.
• Interpret laboratory results, ECGs, radiological imaging and other diagnostics to guide treatment.
• Lead and supervise physicians, residents, nurses and allied health staff, and participate in departmental planning and protocol development.
• Ensure compliance with UAE healthcare regulations, hospital policies and international clinical standards.
• Engage in quality improvement, audits, morbidity‑mortality reviews and accreditation activities.
• Provide teaching, mentorship and support continuing medical education for junior staff and medical students.
• Contribute to clinical research, publications and disaster preparedness planning.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS/MD) from a recognised institution.
• Completed accredited residency in Emergency Medicine.
• Board certification in Emergency Medicine recognised by UAE health authorities.
• 5–8 years post‑board experience in a tertiary‑care emergency department, preferably with trauma exposure.
• Demonstrated leadership in emergency department settings and involvement in quality improvement initiatives.
