Consultant Hematology & Transfusion Medicine

About the role

We are looking for a board‑certified Consultant Hematologist with a strong focus on Transfusion Medicine to join a leading tertiary‑care centre in Saudi Arabia. The role involves delivering expert diagnostic and therapeutic care for hematologic disorders while ensuring safe, efficient transfusion services that meet national and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage benign and malignant hematological conditions, including anemia, leukemias, lymphomas and coagulopathies.
• Supervise blood‑bank operations, compatibility testing, inventory management and transfusion protocols.
• Lead apheresis, plasma‑exchange and cellular‑therapy services where applicable.
• Guide clinical staff on transfusion guidelines and manage transfusion reactions.
• Collaborate with laboratory medicine, oncology and bone‑marrow transplant teams.
• Participate in hematopathology consultations and liaise with external reference laboratories.
• Contribute to CME activities, mentorship programmes and quality‑assurance initiatives.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with SCFHS and MOH regulations.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with residency in Internal Medicine or Pathology.
• Fellowship or subspecialty certification in Hematology and/or Transfusion Medicine; board‑certified (UK CCT, US Board, Canadian FRCP, Arab Board or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years post‑specialisation experience, including recent consultant‑level practice.
• Eligible for Consultant classification with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
• Proficient in English; Arabic is a plus.
• Preferred experience with stem‑cell transplantation, immunohematology or hemovigilance systems.
