Consultant Palliative Medicine Physician

About the role

Black Pearl is seeking an experienced Consultant Palliative Medicine Physician to deliver specialist clinical care for patients with advanced, chronic and life‑limiting illnesses. The role involves direct patient management, multidisciplinary consultation and support for patients and families throughout the illness trajectory, not limited to end‑of‑life care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of complex physical symptoms such as pain, breathlessness, nausea, fatigue and delirium.
• Develop individualized palliative and supportive‑care plans aligned with patient preferences and goals of care.
• Deliver inpatient and outpatient palliative care and act as a consultant to other hospital departments.
• Collaborate closely with oncology, internal medicine, surgery, intensive care, emergency medicine, nursing, pharmacy, psychology, social work and allied health teams.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences and complex clinical decision‑making.
• Lead advance‑care planning discussions and support patients and families with sensitive prognosis and treatment conversations.
• Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, pathway development and research initiatives.
• Mentor and educate junior doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Required profile

• Primary medical degree (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent) from a recognised medical school.
• Postgraduate specialist qualification in Palliative Medicine, Palliative Care or Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
• Consultant‑level clinical experience with significant post‑specialisation exposure to palliative medicine.
• Demonstrated expertise in managing complex symptoms and pain in advanced malignancy or other life‑limiting conditions.
• Strong communication skills for sensitive discussions with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Current medical registration/licence and eligibility for a UAE/DHA licence.
• Evidence of continuing professional development and good standing.
