Consultant Physician – Emergency

About the role

The Consultant Physician – Emergency will lead the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based emergency care at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. Reporting to the Division Chief, the role combines clinical excellence with mentorship of junior staff and active participation in departmental initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, manage and treat emergency patients in accordance with best‑practice guidelines.
• Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
• Participate in peer‑review, productivity and utilization review processes.
• Assist the Division Chief with scheduling, recruitment and maintaining adequate medical coverage.
• Lead ward rounds, document clinical information promptly, and review investigation results to adjust treatment plans.
• Coordinate with other specialties and support services, and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings.
• Ensure proper patient preparation for procedures, including obtaining informed consent.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or equivalent qualification in Emergency Medicine.
• Extensive experience in emergency department settings, preferably at a senior or consultant level.
• Demonstrated leadership and teaching abilities.
• Commitment to adhering to hospital policies, clinical standards and resource utilization.
